 THE ROLE

This is a office/field role for someone looking to build a career in civil construction project management and estimating.  Key Responsibilities

**Project Coordination**

## About the Role

## Key Responsibilities

- Supervise and coordinate crew members on sewer installation/repair, drain, and weepingtles.
- Read and interpret blueprints, grading plans, and site drawings
- Lay out and verify grades, elevations, and pipe alignment using laser levels/transits
- Oversee excavation, shoring, pipe-laying, backfilling, and compaction

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Lay out and/or locate pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints, and coordinating layouts with supervisors and municipal requirements. Setup and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels.

· Achieve the correct grade by directing operators of equipment to adjust grades as required.

· Responsible for equipment checks and informing supervisors of problems with equipment.

· Able to identify hazards on site.

· Willing and able to learn general construction practices involving civil works.

· Have an understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance and the ability to work in and implement safe work practices as well as contribute to a safe working environment.

· Previous experience as a heavy equipment operator is an asset.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Valid Class 5 drivers license (minimum)

· Minimum 2 years industry experience in the civil construction industry, within a pipe crew.

· Ability to read and interpret blueprints is an asset.

· Must be familiar with requirements for municipal sewer, water, hydro and telephone installations.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Overview of Role

- Perform electrical installations, repairs, replacements, and upgrades.
- Install and service electrical panels, breakers, disconnects, receptacles, switches, lighting, and other electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair circuits, wiring, lighting systems, and electrical components.
- Perform panel upgrades, electrical renovations, and service upgrades as required.
- Install and troubleshoot interior and exterior lighting systems.

Required Qualifications
Mandatory:

- Operate excavators and wheel loaders safely and efficiently.
- Feed mobile crushers and screens with a consistent flow of material.
- Load trucks and manage aggregate stockpiles.
- Move, sort, and blend material as required.
- Monitor crusher/screener feed and communicate production or equipment issues.
- Remove oversized material and contaminants from the feed area when safe to do so.

 Tackaberry Construction is a local, family run civil contractor, serving eastern Ontario since 1957, with three locations, over 50 pits and quarries and an asphalt plant in Eastern Ontario.

Our team has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time, Estimator/Site Foreperson. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, with strong civil construction estimating experience. A great attitude and strong communication skills are a must.

Valid driver’s license, a clean driver’s abstract, and the ability to clear a background check for institutional work are required.

 THE ROLE

The Estimator/Site Foreperson meets with clients, subcontractors and internal team members to prepare cost estimates for residential, commercial and municipal projects. In this position you will manage multiple projects simultaneously and lead small crews.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Engage with clients to actively pursue project opportunities
- Support our regional retail & rental market providing aggregate material placing & equipment rental options (rates)
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications & grade expectations in carrying out site work
- Lead small crews (2-4 people) through active participation and supervision of project types
- Manage multiple (2-3) projects simultaneously
- Maintain accurate documentation of site activities including keeping of daily journal and safety logs
- Submit weekly project schedules to assist with company scheduling
- Adhere to company safety policy
- Prepare accurate cost estimates, budgets and material take offs for civil related projects
- Assist in executing fieldwork as required (construction -grade foreman, temporary operator)

 QUALIFICATIONS

- College diploma in civil engineering technology or technician or equivalent is an asset
- 5 or more years of hands on, civil construction experience preferred
- Background in estimating costs and supervising field crews
- Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task
- Excellent communication & leadership skills
- Positive team player with ability to work under minimal supervision
- Profluent with Microsoft, excel, outlook
- Experience with Auto Cad an asset
- Experience with Heavey Jobs and Heavey did an asset
- Experience with survey tools, laser level and/or GPS
- Professional designation is an asset (CET, CTECH)
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, utilities and asphalt

WORK CONDITIONS

- Routine work outdoors, with occasional indoor work
- Overtime as required
- Exposure to hazards associated with the trade
- Ability to use a computer, including tablet
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions
- Ability to use safety equipment including steel-toed boots, hearing protection, work gloves, and safety glasses
